Vanderbilt has done work on new insect repellant that is 1000 times more effective than deet.

I really hope this is true.

    Needed Bug Repellant Characteristics:
    1. pediatric safe
    2. non-toxic to eyes, mucous membranes
    3. does NOT destroy nylon or other fabrics (as DEET does)
    4. long lasting (with one version offered in a sweat resistant base)

Sounds like the beginning of something amazing.
Imagine one drop on each cheek repelling mossies all day!
Long way to go yet, to be sure.

    Go Vandy!

"Many questions must be answered before VUAA1 can be considered for commercial applications. Zwiebel’s team is currently working with researchers in Vanderbilt’s Drug Discovery Program to pare away the parts of VUAA1 that don’t contribute to its activity. Once that is done, they will begin testing its toxicity."

I bet if this gave you an erection or magically melted away extra pounds they would not even bother with toxicity testing. (Kidding of course…. I think…)

Man I hope the results are agreeable!! This stuff sounds amazing!

It looks like they have been working on this for the last 6 years. I won't be holding my breath.
