I just picked up one of these off the 'bay

Nice jacket of just the right sort of insulative value for my needs this season. I was a little surprised to discover by reading the labels that the outside part of the shell is polyester, whereas the inside is nylon.

Why would that be? Flame retardant?

Polyester is more UV resistant and more water repellant. It also holds DWR better.
