Hi there.
I want to get into some mellow snowshoeing this winter. Just day hiking and such.
Any suggestions for good boots and snowshoes that have worked for you?
Thanks!

Assuming that means non technical terrain, I don't think you can go wrong with Northern Lites Elites or Backcountry snowshoes, depending on your skin out weight plus body weight. For shoes, I've been very happy with my Inov8 Roclite 390 GTX's in combination with a good pair of gaiters. If you are venturing onto technical terrain, you can't go wrong with the MSR Lightning Ascents.

tails are useful for soft snow

Dec 6, 2010 at 4:31 pm #1671520I have msr lightnings, they are pretty sweet, maybe over kill though for what you want.
How cold is it before you guys wear actual winter boots?
I went yesterday in 25 and my feet were toasty in my normal boots.Dec 6, 2010 at 4:34 pm #1671523i just bought a pair of northernlites, they should be here anyday, super excited for them.
They seem to be the lightest around, i figured for day hikes, around town and in the mountains they should be fine.
