Hood is on. Drag link replaced and other little things adjusted, tightened, straightened, greased etc. I took out the driver side door shell that had been hacked (literally) to fit some speakers and fixed the window rolling mechanism. The parts truck door shell will go on as soon as we get some locks for the two doors.
Today was our first drive off the farm and onto real roads. More work to do but the engine seems all good :)
I have all kinds of videos but I cannot upload from home.
My brush painted hood..Oct 14, 2019 at 12:45 pm #3613987
Truck’s looking great Kat. Are you painting the rest of the truck the same color or leaving it as is?Oct 14, 2019 at 1:23 pm #3613990
yeah, that’s beginning to look like a real truckOct 14, 2019 at 1:32 pm #3613993
Thanks. As far as color…I don’t know. I thought that painting with polyurethane would be a good way to preserve the truck after dealing with the rust ( we are on the coast). The color was too light and I added some tint to make it darker, still not exactly what I want but getting closer. I go back and forth on it so for now it’ll be a frankentruck. Once other things are addressed and I work my way around the rust, I’ll probably know better. This isn’t even the right hood, it’s a different year and lands a bit differently on the grille.
Once the lights are working ( including backup and brakes) I am set drive it. Chris is swamped and I need to catch up on reading and papers so it may be a couple of weeks before I get to spend any time at all on this.
First outing on the highway, dash is still offOct 24, 2019 at 3:23 am #3615423
I got to drive it a few miles this evening and as someone pointed out, it’s more like equipment driving than it is (modern) car driving. It does suit me ;)…
Chris fixed all the headlights, brake lights, back up and turn signals last night. That took a few hours but real progress was made. We put the rear plate back on, with current tags :). I put a different skin on the driver side door after putting in a lock, fixing the rolling mechanism for the window and putting in a mirror. This weekend I will do the same on the passenger side. Oh, the dash stays off until all the gauges work. Right now the only one that works is the one for the alternator. I bought an X2Power battery with extra posts for the winch that will go on there someday. We pulled the battery seat and bracket ( actual names??) from the parts truck since it was not nearly as rusty. I am getting closer to actually driving this thing…even added it to my university parking pass. It’ll look good next to all the Prius.Oct 24, 2019 at 3:37 am #3615425
Ken and Ian have already seen these but here they are anyway.
Part way there

They are great trucks. Nice to see another back on the road. And yes, equipment operator, not driver. Agriculture.Oct 24, 2019 at 1:39 pm #3615463
Thanks Doug and Ken.
One thing I have really enjoyed is the ability to walk over to the parts truck and pull off little things like a window crank, arm rest, the seat belts, door lock knob…. even tiny springs or clips. I pulled the power brake booster and master cylinder and replaced them myself ( if you have done it you know its quite easy but it sounds impressive to others ;).
So far I have managed to do well in my classes and still spend a bit of time here and there working on the truck, but we are getting further into the quarter and it’s getting more demanding. We’ll see.Oct 24, 2019 at 2:15 pm #3615464
Nice work! Truck is looking great Kat!Oct 25, 2019 at 7:05 pm #3615697
Well…I uploaded some scary/sad videos un Flickr. We are ok. Our stuff is ok. Someone blew it and we spent the evening and part of the night working to save our stuff as well as other people’s. We were there as a fire started and were the first with the hoses but it grew fast. 150 acres or more.
if you click on a video from the thread it should take you to my Flickr account.

Wow! I hope everyone is okayOct 25, 2019 at 11:53 pm #3615783
No one was hurt thankfully. Our lungs hurt probably from the burning batteries. We keep going over it again and again.

looks like those high concrete block walls are a good thing
I hope everyone is getting by okayOct 31, 2019 at 2:07 am #3616611
Little progress but once I get a spare rim and tire I am good to drive around. 16.5 are hard to find.
The lack of much progress is due to the fire and the consequences but even more due to school. At least I made it out of Hell along with Dante and am now enjoying how nice Purgatory is in comparison ;)Oct 31, 2019 at 1:43 pm #3616649
sounds like you’re living in Dante’s inferno?Oct 31, 2019 at 2:14 pm #3616657
^^^ no I said I got out of there and am now in Purgatory. It’s the Divine Comedy and Inferno is just the first cantica.Oct 31, 2019 at 2:31 pm #3616660
I read Dante a long time ago and remember nothing specific : )
I thought in Dante’s inferno everyone was threatened by fire
There is some spectacular video of California fires, it looks terrible down there. The new thing is like hurricane video – get the poor reporter to get almost blown away by hurricane… get the poor reporter almost burned up, reporter can barely remain standing in the wind, embers blowing everywhere, hide behind fire truck, eerie orange glow. All of a sudden, out of the gloom, you see a large plane dumping red stuff on everyone and everything. Very kinetic.Oct 31, 2019 at 3:06 pm #3616667
Why do I bother explaining something.Oct 31, 2019 at 3:16 pm #3616668
“ I am done with beef, I will be eating fish now”
”sounds like you are on a dairy farm”
” no I said I did eat beef but I am now eating fish.”
”I think I remember cows swimming in a pond but who knows.”Oct 31, 2019 at 10:42 pm #3616755

I can be subtle : )Nov 1, 2019 at 2:40 am #3616818
Unless it was my being in the inferno because of the fire I posted about then yes I am still missing the joke.Nov 1, 2019 at 2:44 am #3616819
since the fire is out and I am now in purgatory, what the hell does the inferno have to do with anything? Yes pun intended.
