As a newbie to the canister stove world, I had no idea where to start when looking at models. I've been using the same Whisperlite for 20 years, and a Svea back to the mid 80's so I was a bit reluctant to change. Hiking Jim at adventuresinstoving.blogspot.com got me up the learning curve very quickly.
Why get a canister stove? I wanted something super-light and compact for ... Read more

Have had this stove for a few months now. I love how lightweight and easy to set-up it is. It works well with wind and is easy to fine-tune the flame to get a simmer going. Unfortunately the self-ignitor broke after a few uses. I might be able to fix it, but I was hoping it would last quite a bit longer.

Soto Amicus stove has a recessed head
It has a shape of a mortar-cutter that reduces the influence of the wind to a minimum.
It maintains a strong firepower.
Soto Amicus is the real thing.
It's one of the best equipment I've ever bought.
The part that adjusts the gas volume is also folded and unfolded.
Makes things sense well.
A disadvantage is an expensive price

The Amicus generally received high praise for its wind resistance, without even needing a screen. I have only been able to use it a handful of times for a few short trips so far, but at this point I am impressed and have had no issues with the flame; seems to he... Read more

I have owned a Soto for 3 years. I have used it in 20 degree temps. The igniter worked everytime and I have never had a problem lighting it in high winds. It was a bit pricy, but, I was so happy with it’s performance, I bought a 2nd one as a backup and to share with backpacking buddies.
