You guys are funny :)
I could probably cram my tarp and quilt into a multipack, then wear it as a belt! Wear my puffy and rain gear.
The only thing in my pack would be food and water-all consumables. So my base weight would be 18 oz. Not bad!!

Jul 1, 2014 at 7:14 am #2116377Ken, my waist pack is 2L. It just barely fits my camera and lens, plus an extra lens with a hood, and an extra battery. (Side note, I'm digging m4/3 for hiking!). Its small enough that it doesn't bounce much and doesn't block my view of my feet like my previous chestpack for my DSLR did. I'm of the opinion that the smaller, the better when it comes to supplemental chest/waist packs.

HA! BPL gospel right here. That's rich.
Regarding the waistpack, I used to wear a hydration pack and a fanny pack (worn in the back) while cycling. I found that the constant readjustment of straps over the course of the day really wore on me. I eventually shifted to just a backpack or hydration pack, or nothing at all.
For hiking, it's the same for me. The backpack is fidgety enough; add another pack to that, and I'm spending more time on strap management than nature appreciation.
I find that anything I might "need" without taking off my pack is a problem that creates itself. I didn't know I wanted to access it until I had access. Camera excepted, nothing is really so essential that you need to access it without stopping. IMO.
Jul 1, 2014 at 9:13 am #2116407Jen-"can some of you guys who use the multipack in the front please post pictures?? I want to like it – I really, really do – but it seems to bounce around a bit too much for me to want to carry it.
I'd love to see what I'm doing wrong….."
Do you have it attached to your pack? I don't…
Here, I cropped a few. Couple of them will probably be hard to see much detail due to the cropping and downsizing, though.Jul 1, 2014 at 1:06 pm #2116484I wear mine a little lower. No pictures though… I hike in the nude so they would quickly get removed by the forum admin.
Jul 1, 2014 at 4:46 pm #2116556Ah – I used mine on one trip, around my waist and hanging in the front like a backwards fanny pack. But it kept hitting my legs when I walked, or stepped up on rocks, etc. I see you are wearing yours quite a bit higher…
Joe's pictures have it hanging on his chest, which really doesn't seem all that comfy to me. Around the waist in the front seemed like a good idea, but it just hung down too low.
Maybe I'll try it a bit your way…….
Jul 1, 2014 at 8:39 pm #2116657I've used a large pocket as a chest pocket in the winter – I wear it between the waist and chest such that it doesn't hit my legs. Keep in mind that it can add some warmth in winter and trap heat in summer – I wouldn't want to wear one high on the chest in summer, but again between the waist and chest – cooler that way.
I often use a Dana Wet Rib all year just high enough not to interfere with my stride (I use the "Wet" bottle pocket to hold other stuff and not bottles). Love it and may make one from lighter material at some point.
Ribz also offer dual pockets (sort of like dual Dana Ribs) that ride between waist and chest, through they are heavier and more rugged.
Feb 9, 2020 at 6:34 am #3630523I can use the zpack multi bag to carry what size water bottle? Â Want to use as Fanny pack for peak day hike …
