Part of the route through the Movave desert may, in future, go through the high country in the Tehatchepi Mountains, thanks to a land acquisition by The Tejon Ranch Conservancy.

This plan has been in the works for a while. Nice to see some movement in the right direction. The trail is still developing.

In 1986, the state of Colorado was given some land by the Staunton family for the purpose of making a park.

In May 2013, the state park opened.

This park only about 4k acres and no easements or land swaps involved. (Though there were other purchases as "recently" as 2006…eight yrs ago!)

The new PCT route may take a while. :)

I do this type of work on the coast of California and it does take time to get right. The minimum turn around time for a simple property from the time it is purchased to having a trail on the ground is about two years. The first spring and summer are spent doing botanical and other studies to make sure you get a trail alignment that is good for the environment. Then, if you have money for construction the second summer is for building the trail.

Lots of things can make this take longer such as lining up money for the studies and construction, endangered species, neighbors afraid of the new people on the trails and more. And, you can only build so much trail each year.

This deal with the Tejon Ranch has been going on seemingly forever. Decade at least so far. It's all about those attorneys.

Ken, it isn't so much about time as it is about billable hours.
