Footnhills Trail

Locale: Southeast mountains

I'm planning on doing the foothills trail in late March. What I was wondering is if you have hiked this trail what tips have you found that might be helpful. Also was thinking of not hiking to Tablerock but instead doing the Ceasar Head spur and going down to Jones gap, what are the pros and cons of this route vs traditional route. I have dayhiked in the Mountain Bridge wilderness so I'm more familiar with that area.
