Still waiting on a daytime mountain lion in the spot with ocean view. A few weeks ago the big male with the ripped ear took a nap right on the lookout spot, at night. Last night a different mountain lion took a nap in the same spot. There are about 300 pictures of that, but here is a selection.
After that, a couple of pictures from today and then another post with some screen shots of videos I got. The quality of video with the new Reconyx XR6 is incredible, with sound in stereo…

I paused some of my videos to get screen shots so that quality is not the greatest.
Today I got videos of two different cats, one with an injury on the shoulder that has had it limp for about six months now.

This one was pretty cool when the cougar turned around like that..

This one stopped to scratch right in front of the camera and the sound was really good

    Itch

Woke up from a nap and walked all dopey :)

    Dopey

Here I had left the camera less than twenty minutes before going in that same direction. The cat walked quite stealthily and carefully :-0

The injured cat. The video shows the gait/ injury quite well

This injured one is looking for the young one. They have been visiting the same spots and leaving scents..

    Thanks everyone.
For those interested in the equipment, this is the new Reconyx XR 6, which is their first to do video. On Vimeo the video was compressed and lost some quality. It records in HD and the sound is in stereo. Unfortunately while Reconyx cameras are the fastest and don't miss a thing, this camera is slower to detect and trigger. Takes it 3 to 5 seconds, which is forever. Lots of missed events.

"WOW!!!" Is all that I can say!
I've seen plenty of tracks on nearby trails, heard them growl over who gets to eat, even seen a couple of the local mountain lions as they cross the trail, but your videos are amazing.
Thanks so much for sharing the vimeo links!!!

P.S. Those California Quail are the creepiest animals that I have ever seen. Yikes.

Kat, since your trained mountain lions are so great, can you train them to give you a "high five?" Of course, cat's paws being like they are, I'm not sure if they have five.

SO much better than the rattlesnake I almost stepped on today on my morning run. [shudder]

That last one I uploaded a few minutes ago of the limping mountain lion was from last night. I was there 20 minutes earlier, alone….does that count as HTFU?

Sure, for the mountain lion. He was the one limping….

    @kattt

Thanks! It is a fox kit. I even got the nicest little video of it, but sad news I am afraid. The first 15 seconds of the video are as cute as can be then the mom and kit go behind the camera and it really sounds like something got the little guy. Brutal out there.
