    With long pants, when you raise your knee up to take a step, the bottom of the pants go up too.

    With gaiters hanging from your calf or just sitting there on top of your shoes, they will stay over the top of the shoes when you take a step

    Unless you walk through grass or push against a bush. For trail walking I see how that would work.

    I mostly use gaiters for walking through grasslands that have all kinds of stickers and seeds that will get into your shoes and torment you. Keeping that stuff out of my shoes is extremely important and around here it's mostly grasslands mixed with oaks.

    I walk through grass a lot and they stay put

    But, it just depends, may work and may not

    I agree, keeping stickers and dirt out of shoes is important

    Didn't read the article.

    Bailing wire or swedged galvanized wire is durable underfoot.

    Tubular webbing over cord or elastic also prolongs wear.

    Anyone try the spectra cords?
