I'm planning a two night trip to the GCW, never been there. The two trail heads I'm considering to jump off from are either Talbot, or Picayune. I was told that generally I might be too early because of the snow, but besides a bunch of north faced slopes, the snow will be almost non-existent. I'm taking a friend who has never backpacked, or really even hiked that much at all. Does anyone have any experience on these trails? I'm making the trip from Sacramento. Looking for directions to those trail heads has proved difficult, as well.
Any information anyone can provide on these trails would be great. Is either one easier for a beginner? And a shot in the dark here, what's the best way to get there from the Sacramento area. Thanks for anything you BPL'ers got!
