My large Ghost is 8 oz. , my large Flash is 12 oz. both 2012/2013 models. The Ghost fits better (enough room to layer, but not huge in the chest) but the Flash gets such good reviews and seems to have more down….Anyone have an idea about fill weights (WM says "average" fill is 3 oz. for the Flash hooded), no info on the Ghost hooded…
Feb 20, 2013 at 7:33 pm #1956683There is a long thread of the ghost whisper around here. Fill weight is in there.
The flash has a better fill weight / total weight. But the ghost is pretty good given that it has less down. I think it has around 3 oz.
Feb 20, 2013 at 7:47 pm #1956686I'll look for the thread…must have missed it
Feb 20, 2013 at 8:47 pm #1956710WM Flash: 3oz. 850 down, 10.25oz average weight
MH Ghost Whisperer: 2.78oz 850 down, 7.5oz average weightI'm interested to see how the MH fits, and it has a single pull hem drawcord, something the WM does not. The Flash has a down filled draft tube behind the zipper which might account for the difference in weight. I'm not sure that's really needed as I usually will have a wind jacket on over my insulating layer.
Feb 20, 2013 at 10:44 pm #1956736The ghost whisperer is also well reviewed:

and more chatter here on bpl:

Considering they serve a similar function and will likely keep you warm to a similar tempt (slight edge to WM), I'd go with the MH at 4 oz lighter. Your flash is considerably over spec, so I bet at least some of that is down. Either way, we're still talking about 2-3 season insulation pieces.
Also, as mentioned elsewhere, the ghost will have hydrophic fill soon. The hoodless version already does: http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Men%27s-Ghost-Whispererâ„¢-Down-Jacket/OM5678,default,pd.html&colorID=293
Feb 21, 2013 at 11:50 am #1956941Last year's model of the Ghost Whisperer can also be had for 40-50% off right now, so that seems like the better jacket all around
Feb 21, 2013 at 11:52 am #1956943It came down to fit for me. I have a small/medium chest with arms that need a large jacket for length — and the WM is very roomy in the chest (too roomy for me) and the Ghost fits more snuggly (with room to layer still). Both good pieces, both top quality from looking them over.
