Anybody use just 6.5" shepherd's crook titanium stakes for this shelter? Are they adequate?
Sep 16, 2012 at 7:24 pm #1912829That's what I use but they're sort of marginal
They can rotate in the ground and the guyline slip off
And they tend to bend when I pound them in hard ground
I often put a large rock on top which helps

They've got a more severe bend on the hook, and they don't rotate like most.I use aluminum y-stakes most of the time. Ti needles are lighter, but the aluminum Y stakes are a lot more versatile most of the time. I've never really had a catastrophic problem with Ti needles when I do take them out, I just really prefer the safer feeling y-stakes. Bringing 2 or 4 y-stakes for important points and Ti to fill out the rest of the guylines is a pretty good option, too.
