Current thrift store trucker hat is 2.25. Surely there's a 1oz out there, right?
Mar 9, 2012 at 5:36 am #1850987Black Rock Gear has a down beanie that is 1 oz or less, depending on the model you choose. Not cheap, but well-made and warm.
They have a good reputation on this forum.Mar 9, 2012 at 5:51 am #1850997my BPL Headsweats ball cap is 1.80 ounces and dries super fast. the BPL screen printing actually uses antigravity ink, so it saves 0.2 ounces :)
my Headsweats beanie is 1.35 ounces.
Mar 9, 2012 at 6:14 am #1851005Ah, I should have specified. I use it for rain, actually. So beanies wouldn't work.
Mar 9, 2012 at 6:23 am #1851011my shell has a hood.
Mar 9, 2012 at 10:16 am #1851136I just use a baseball hat and a poncho. Trying to lighten by an ounce, though.
Mar 9, 2012 at 10:19 am #1851138Take the baseball cap and add features. Add a piece of plastic over the top if you want to make it rainproof. You can tuck the bottom corners under the headband. Add a bandana inside it if you want warmth.

Mar 9, 2012 at 11:27 am #1851198Headsweats visor ~1.5oz
MYOG out of some thin plastic could probably easily be sub 1 ozMar 9, 2012 at 1:08 pm #1851267Mountain Hardwear Geist

Mar 9, 2012 at 1:22 pm #1851277My REI Runners Hat is 1.6oz
Mar 10, 2012 at 12:14 am #1851538The Geist is exactly what I'm looking for, thank you!
Now it's just a matter of finding a good deal.
Mar 10, 2012 at 4:08 am #1851548The Geist is stretch fit and last years model was described as big for the size. Limited built in adjustability so make sure you can return it easily. A safety pin or other method could be used to help size it if a little large for the given noggin.
Mar 10, 2012 at 4:17 am #1851550Look for a Tyvek painter's cap from Home Depot, etc.
Mar 12, 2012 at 1:51 pm #1852578Montbell Mesh Crusher is 1.1oz, for future reference.
Mar 12, 2012 at 8:51 pm #1852785Brice's thread. It has some good options. Most are about 1.5 oz or heavier. The one you just mentioned is a bit lighter and a painters hat is too.
Mar 13, 2012 at 11:04 am #1853032The warmest hat I've found for the weight would be a down hood like Jacks R Better's. Two ounces and amazingly warm. But for most trips and hiking on trail, my favorite is a BPL Possumdown beanie that is 1.8 oz. I have a DIY fleece hat I made that's only an ounce, but I never bring it because its not as warm as the Possumdown. Worth the extra 0.8 oz IMO. Just sayin.
Mar 19, 2012 at 6:28 pm #1856278REI Sahara River Cap weighs 31 grams (1.09 ounces).
Mar 19, 2012 at 7:46 pm #1856326Nice addition. Thanks.
