it used to be that i'd get the patagucci catalog and drool like a baby.
anyone else scoped the spring lineup?
maybe it's the H20, but i'm simply unattracted to their offerings.
it's as if their goods went from happenin>>ok, alright>ain't really cuttin' it anymore
who else shares this sentiment?Feb 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm #1840858I think the competition has caught up.
The R1 Hoody was a revolutionary piece, but now you can get five other tops just the same.
Capilene is still a winner, but it's not the only game in town.
The Nano Puff is great, but there are similar items.
Their Down Sweater is a classic, but being a jack-of-all trades, a specialist will opt for another brand's piece.
The Down Shirt was big for mainstream manufacturers (MontBell had similar pieces), but it's now been copied too.
Shells have gone to Gore Tex, unfortunately.
The market supports very few unique and proprietary fabrics these days. Patagonia's lineup is similar to everyone else's, and it comes down to brand loyalty, price, fit, fine workmanship, and attention to detail. I see more Patagonia on the streets today than ever, so I suspect they're doing just fine.
Feb 17, 2012 at 1:11 pm #1840864Eh, I don't think things have changed that much. They've always frustrated by discontinuing awesome stuff (Traverse pants), but sometimes it comes back (ex Merino 1) and their quality is still great. There's lots of junk but they consistently have a couple good new things each season. Customer service and warrantee is tough to beat as well.
