I just got word that Brett Maune became the only 10th person to finish the Barkley Marathons in the 25 year history of the event. As you know many believe it's the most difficult 100 mile (many participants claim it's close to 130 miles) in the world with almost 60,000 feet elevation change.

Some people had serious doubts about his incredible John Muir trail record back in 2009. Do you think his amazing accomplishment in Barkley is enough to bury all the doubts once and for all.
What do you guys think?

I wasn't one to doubt his claims concerning the JMT, and this certainly provides a good rebuttal to the main (if slightly specious) argument that his cred was hampered by no track record.

Apr 4, 2011 at 10:06 am #1719774Brett posted here a lot in 2009 before his JMT adventure.
Apr 4, 2011 at 10:12 am #1719780Brett's completion of the Barkley proves that he is a true champion, and that he deserves the benefit of the doubt Re. his JMT record claim.
Congratulations Brett !Apr 4, 2011 at 10:39 am #1719793Looks like he did it in a little over 57 hours. That must be one heck of a trek. Great work Brett, may it silence the skeptics on the JMT record.
Apr 10, 2011 at 11:00 pm #1723053Congratulations on this unbelievable achievement. What kind of a warped mind comes up with a race course this extreme? Your first post here on BL told me your the real deal because only an honest person would write about running the JMT on snickers. Do you plan on continuing your extreme ultra running adventures? Good luck and be careful if you do. Keep up good work in the lab.
Your admirer, MarkApr 11, 2011 at 7:54 am #1723107That's one hard man.
