What is Facebook?
Mar 7, 2011 at 1:40 pm #1705643Well,
That is a nice looking tent. Probably a lot of people are going to add, yet another, tent to their collection :)
Franco?
Ben?
Mar 7, 2011 at 1:41 pm #1705644Nick,
It is a social site full of kids that want to walk on your lawn.
Best to just avoid it.Mar 7, 2011 at 1:48 pm #1705646Okay…
So is there something wrong with BPL as a social site?
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:01 pm #1705653Nothing wrong with BPL. Facebook probably has more functionality and a better user interface and it's free, but certainly lacks the backpacker specific audience
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:23 pm #1705667I will only make a comment and promise not to hijack the thread but before you knock Facebook, you should try it. As a 50+ year old I have caught up with a bunch of old friends I would have never found as I have moved a lot through out life. I have friends with the same attitude as some of you, it tends to be guy thing. I will say women really like it and that is reason enough for me. :)

Mar 7, 2011 at 2:24 pm #1705668It looks very similar to the new Zpacks hexamid with the beak with the hexanet inner bug netting that Richard brought to the 3rd Anual Bay Area BPL GGG a couple of weeks ago.
Really, really, really similar
It's like a slightly modified hexamid. I don't see much creativity. Using a second pole is the biggest difference I see between the two. Well, besides the cuben.
I think Richard said with guylines the setup seen here (no stakes or pole) is about 10 oz.
Photo credit goes to Tony Wong.
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:28 pm #1705671I think the main difference between these is the separate inner tent
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:32 pm #1705674They are both separate inner tents.
Michael Fogarty asks "Is the inner tent detachable from the outer tent?"
Ron Bell replies "Yes!"
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:33 pm #1705675My mistake on that. I guess they are very similar
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:36 pm #1705678"So is there something wrong with BPL as a social site?"
The funny looks I get when I'm carrying around my cuben backpack and pitching my cuben shelter and wearing 'sneakers' in the winter always made me think that BPL was a social disease…….
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:38 pm #1705679Up on MLD's site now…
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:41 pm #1705684Ben, you're only seeing one angle. After looking at the other angles on MLD's website, I'd say the Cricket bears much more resemblance to the MLD Solomid than the zPacks Hexamid. Which, of course, makes sense.
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:42 pm #1705685AnonymousInactiveThe price is disappointing, but the shelter looks nice.
Mar 7, 2011 at 2:54 pm #1705690Ben, that was my first impression, but Doug is correct on this one. The pics on MLD show it much more like a Solomid, crossed with a Trailstar. I think it's most likely to be competition with the Solomid rather than the Hexamid.
Mar 7, 2011 at 3:14 pm #1705703I thought the same thing at first, but it appears to come with the solo inner which is $145 by itself so that puts the tarp portion at $150 which is in line with the solomid.
Mar 7, 2011 at 3:58 pm #1705719The Trailstar Solo is now also up on the MLD site.
Mar 7, 2011 at 4:27 pm #1705736Is it me or is the solo trailstar the same outer tarp as is used in the cricket?
Mar 7, 2011 at 4:31 pm #1705739Ron Bell writes "Yes, the Cricket tent Outer Wall is the exact same thing as the Solo TrailStar. See the TrailStar info on the website later tonight for a bit more info on that.
Mar 7, 2011 at 4:59 pm #1705756Cameron, it's kinda eerie how you're channeling Ron. When you start doing those old Greek dudes I'm gonna freak….. ;-)
Mar 7, 2011 at 5:52 pm #1705789Does the hexamid have a catrenary cut outer tent? Tony's photo makes it look like it has some flap in it.
Mar 7, 2011 at 6:39 pm #1705819Gentlemen, I believe I just soiled my drawers.
The Cricket is right up my alley
The price is more than I want to pay, but those guys are the masters of putting it juuust out of reach so I'll eventually crack and succumb the full-frontal fury of my capitalist brainwashing! whatever that was
Mar 7, 2011 at 6:41 pm #1705821Is the net tent on the new Cricket the same as the regular solo InnerNet? Looks like there may be some differences (more WP floor, momentum panels, higher bathtub) for the Cricket net tent.
