Although many of the tips have already been discussed in the forums, it is worth reading some of these documents:
http://www.amann.com/en/download/industrial-sewing-threads.html
In particular:
- Prevention of seam pucker.
- Stretch it! When elastic seams are needed.
And if you want to improve your sewing skills:
- Sewing Exercise Sheets
Nov 30, 2010 at 12:56 pm #1669400Also have a look at the Rasant brochure. The Rasant 120 is very good with silnylon; the Rasant 75 is also suitable for high stress areas such as attachment points.
Cheers

However, I can not find them locally. Not mass market products, I suppose.
Dec 1, 2010 at 7:50 am #1669718I don't suppose any of you have researched the claims that Gore-Tex makes on their Tenara thread? Living in AZ, the claim that poly or poly/cotton loses so much strength in the UV light out here is worrisome initially (good marketing on their part).
I just wonder exactly how skewed their research was? I found some tenara through sailrite and it's $130 per cone!!!
Either way, pretty positive the benefits aren't worth that much of a price hike. It's more a question of curiosity.
Dec 1, 2010 at 9:57 am #1669768Well… they only provide vague sentences without any actual data.
Perhaps, the best one is “In fact, it is guaranteed to outlast the fabric in which it is used!”
After all, GORE-TEX is “Guaranteed to Keep You Dry”… in a laboratory.

That is what Marketing does.

Dec 1, 2010 at 12:18 pm #1669810Figured as much, was hoping maybe they had some product brochures online with the actual science printed in them (Dupont does this for some products which is REALLY cool and informative of them) but couldn't find anything.
Dec 1, 2010 at 12:22 pm #1669814You can only provide real data if the science exists.
And since it apparently doesn't…..
