you guys have to remember than synthetics have come a long way …

remeber that not so long ago climashield HL and polarguard 3D were da bomb and they had clo values of 0.6-0.7 …. the newest primaloft one has a clo of 0.92 … which you see in the thinner DAS parka for the same warmth

these days top synthetics are probably around 550 fill down … give it another decade and theyll match 650 fill … which honestly for the average joe is considered "high end" down … and still very much used in bags and jackets

the basic fact is that down isnt going to get much better, short of FRANKENDOWN =P

    …. but synthetics are

im reminded of the good ole renaissance days where armchair generals were still arguing that the longbow was superior to gunpowder up till the rifled musket … too bad for them and very good for the brits that no one took them seriously … lol

people always forget about the potential GROWTH rate of products and companies …

Do y'all think that …what is it?… oh, that aerogel stuff will replace synthetics. That stuff was all the rage for 4 months. Didn't I see something about it not being warm?

Do you think, since, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, that synthetics will continue to mimic down in terms of properties (fluffy, looks like mycelia, etc…) or will something different like an aerogel take over.

I guess, at a certain point, its more to do with loft, than mitigating convection.
