Coming to New Mexico from Oregon for about 9 days 9/17-9/26, two days with a family friend fishing in Rio Del Los Pinos up near CO/NM border then would like to finish off with a Fri-Sat-Sunday in the stretch of Taos/Santa Fe/ABQ.
Been looking for decent 20-40 mile loops/lassos in Northern NM and seems like for our interests (lakes w/ fishing, alpine, valleys), there are more options in South San Juan Wilderness just north in Colorado. We were finding lots of 12-17 mile in-and-outs in NM. That said, is this time frame pushing the edge season wise or any feedback? 4 season tent vs tarp tent, WM ultralite and a Feathered Friends Lark enough warmth? (they zip together). We winter camp here in the cascades for background, that said, we don't want to deal with anything more than a 'dusting' preferably.
Right now looking at a loop involving Blue Lake/CDT. http://www.ouachitamaps.com/SSJ%20Blue%20Lake.html
Thanks for feedback.
