I'm going to be at East Fork Campground in Rock Creek (inyo NF) for a family camping affair. Naturally, I'll need to get the hell away from them, so I'm looking for an overnighter or 2-nighter in that area. I might have a car, but I can probably get a ride from someone there.
My trusty California Hiking recommends Convict Canyon to Lake Dorothy and McGee Creek to Steelhead lake to start with.
Any have any other suggestions, or know anything about permits, etc for this area? Both are in the JMW, and the website says they hold 40% of permits for walk ins.
TIA
Jul 25, 2010 at 6:19 pm #1632190It seems that Tamarack Lakes trail leaves right from the campground, and you can summit mount morgan on an overnighter.
Is this going to be crazy buggy? 25-26 August.
Anyone know the trail? Anyone want to come?
Joe
