    Hi I will be living in Gunnison Colorado starting in January 2011. During early May 2011 I will be looking to do some backpacking in the Crested Butte area. Preferably a 4 to 5 day trip. Any ideas or suggestions on where to go and what to see. Routes, Passes, Peaks, Trail Loops, etc. Anyone been backpacking in this area or live there? Thanks

    Locale: Oklahoma

    Ryan, there are so many places within an easy reach of Gunnison. Try the Weminuche Wilderness, Colorado Trail, Continental Divide Trail for starters. Have a blast!

    Crested Butte? Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness Area has many options. Check out the Four Pass Loop, although early May might be too early for that…

    Locale: 6237' - Manitou Springs

    The West Elk wilderness is right there and is seldom mentioned. We did a 3 day loop, that included an ascent of West Elk Peak, and saw one person. The area has some unusual-for-Colorado geology.
