    @askurka

In the next hour I'd like to finalize the name of my 2010 project. Below are the finalists. Thoughts please…

    Alaskan Wilderness Experience (AWE)
    -or- Alaskan Wilderness Epic (AWE)

    Alaskan Epic Odyssey (AEO)

    Alaska-Brooks Circuit (ABC)

    Alaskan Ranges Epic Adventure (AREA)

    Alaska Four-Thousand (AK4K)

    I like:

    Alaskan Wilderness Epic (AWE)
    Alaska Four-Thousand (AK4K) – AK4K has a nice ring to it.

What happened to "The Great Anti-Social Death Wish" and "When Hell Freezes Over?" Along those lines I had thought of "Andy's Death March" and "The Great Race to the next Food Drop" or "The Most Extreme Way to Wear Out a Closet Full of Shoes."

On a serious note I like Alaska Wilderness Epic and Alaska Ranges Epic Advanture they're easy to say and make sense.

Never mind I'm changing my mind. I like AK4K better too. I vote for that.

A consensus seems to be forming.

What happens if the trip ends up being 4,500 miles? Do I use kilometers instead? AK8K

The only problem with AK4K (or really any of these names) is that a lot of this trip (roughly 1/3) is outside AK in the Yukon….not that I have a good suggestion that incorporates this….maybe AKYK4K but that's getting long and awkward. It looks more like a postal code than a trip name.

I received a few names that incorporated the Yukon.

"ALKON," a play on the Alcan Highway

And numerous names including "Last Frontier." So, "Last Frontier Wilderness Epic," etc.

The only idea I can think of to fix the Yukon problem would be something like "Artic 4000" but that might sound too much like "Artic 600" and besides to be technical a lot of the trip is not really above the artic circle. "Alaska-Yukon Trek" sounds more like a tour company to me. I say stay with AK4K.

I mean really, what's an additional 500 miles anyway? Well, Ok…so it is a lot, but it's all in the name!

AWE is too similar to a guiding outfitter up there.

ABC doesn't make much sense to me.

"Epic" isn't a term I'm a fan of. Especially as it can be a positive or a negative.

    I like AK4K

Okay, I get the point. Not sure it will end up being AK4K or AK8K or something else, but this structure is the winner. Thanks a guys.

Epic is far too over-used lately. I do like the AK4K-style naming convention.

Approximately one-third of the route (about 1,500 miles) are in the Yukon. That's a lot of miles to ignore, don't you think?

You guys clearly like the structure of the AK4K — it's got a nice ring and it's descriptive.

If we keep it descriptive while including the Yukon, what do we get?

    "Last Frontier Four-Thousand"

"Wild Yukon Four-Thousand" (in reference namely to the river, which I'm essentially circumnavigating)

Some reference to the total number of road crossings, e.g. "Ten Roads Four-Thousand"

I was thinking about something with Frontier in it earlier today. Ex. Great Frontier Loop or GFL.

I just looked at the map on your website again, what about Alaska360? You are pretty much circling the state.

or Great Alaskan Adventure 4K or Alaskan Four Thousand…..

To work of the Palin thing…Going Rouge in Alaska

    Just some new ideas.

AWE wins for me–Experience, not Epic. I think it speaks to the tone of the journey more. "Epic" has become so over-used that when I hear it I think of a weekend-warrior or office jock trying to one-up their story.

AK4K has no appeal to me. No ring to it, no real tone or background to it.

Might consider RAW–Real (or Remote) Alaska Wilderness
