suggestions for California coastal hikes

My husband and I would like to hike about 8 miles or less from a road to some pleasant location between Santa Barbara and Eureka within a few (0-30) miles of the coast. We would then camp there and explore locally for several days before returning. Any suggestions?

You might try the Sinkyone Wilderness but go in at the North end to Needle Rock instead of the South end at Usall ( known as a party place)
