Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has explored near Sykes Hot Springs since the fire? The Ranger station says that the trail leading to Sykes from highway 1 is closed and there are over 70 downed trees across the trail. Has anyone been there recently? Maybe there is another way to get there? Or a similar backpacking trip to a primitive hot spring in North / Central California?

Sep 17, 2009 at 6:25 am #1528259Willetts and Sespe… Los Padres, southern region. Maybe further than you want to go. There are also hot springs to hike to around Santa Barbara but Willets and Sespe are more remote.
There are some very helpful books about hot springs, one devoted entirely to the west (California/Nevada/Arizona/NM).
I'm going to Mono Hot Springs in a couple weeks… it's in the Sierras near Huntington Lake.
And then there is http://www.soak.net….
