Have any of you BB users ever tried blocking the air holes on the pot stand collar…sorta like this:
The idea is to see if its provides more wind protection. My informal testing shows in light wind it helps. In very windy conditions…forget it…find a wind sheltered spot or use with a windscreen.

May 13, 2009 at 12:21 pm #1501054I have used a half height Caldera Cone (a Fissure) to protect the top half of the BB. Hard to explain without a photo, but worked well. Now I just use a Ti-Tri cone instead. Lighter, more stable and more wind resistant…

Lynn, Do you mean you use a Ti Tri instead of the Bush Buddy?
Any other users have both the Bush Buddy and a Ti Tri system that would like to make a comment about how effective they are? IS one faster, easier than the other?
I was looking at buying a Bush buddy to go with the Filelite 1100 ML pot, but wonder if a Ti Tri cone is a better option?
Thanks,
Tony
Jun 3, 2009 at 4:42 pm #1505631Don't have a Ti Tri cone but the way I understand and see it is that you are limited to the specific pot bought for or maybe pots of very similar dimensions…in alcohol or esbit mode. Wood burning mode may give some more optional pots/pans.
The BB can be used with tri-fuels as presented in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBWLlgJD2Ec. OK its a Bush Cooker but close enough since its based on the BB.
Bush Cooker using a Trangia spirit burner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtrfaXBnGZ0. I do the same thing in the BB.
My BB using trioxane: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6346698098609326843&ei=SIslSqaKKZ7WqAOp8ZXpBw&q=bushbuddy&hl=en. Fast forward to about 2:55 minutes.
