Does anybody on the BPL staff have means of knowing who is posting anonymously whether that be by IP address or other?
Nov 26, 2005 at 6:59 am #1345906IP address is always recorded. The question is… How accessible is it? And of what value is it?
Is it buried in some web logs? If so, its not likely someone would go to the trouble of looking it up. If it is recorded with the message, then access is easy for any admin.
What would they do with the IP? They might be able to determine the “owner” of the ip address, but that doesn’t necessarily indicate an individual (NAT). What if the address is “owned” by AOL? What good would that do them?
Now if the address was owned by MSR and the posting was dissin’ JetBoil, I guess they could be used “against you”.
