I am looking for the lightest widemouth bottle. My criteria are:
>should have min 16 oz capacity and and 24oz max
>should be safe for filling in boiling water
>should not hold odor or impart taste; I think that rules out LPDE, HPDE
>should be light, obviously; that rules out aluminum and stainless steelThere you go.. thanks in advance, guys.
Oct 7, 2008 at 8:54 am #1453508My compromise is one of these
Oct 7, 2008 at 8:58 am #1453510Unfortunately, Nalgene cantene dont meet my first criteria.
Oct 7, 2008 at 9:00 am #1453511What does wide mouth mean specifically?
Oct 7, 2008 at 9:04 am #1453512you could roll and clip it to your maximum I still think it would be lighter than the next candidate

63mm opening, which is the size of widemouth camelbak, classic nalgenes etc.>you could roll and clip it to your maximum I still think it would be lighter than the next candidate
I thought about that but I would like it to be free standing. If I dont find any good lwt bottle I may end up just doing that.

I will call anything <3oz good.
Oct 7, 2008 at 10:49 am #1453527What is wrong with nalgene 16 oz wide mouth lexan bottles?
Oct 7, 2008 at 11:00 am #1453529I am not sure if the plastic in a wide mouth gaitoraide bottle would work out for you, but they are something that I have considered to take winter camping.

Oct 7, 2008 at 11:12 am #1453530Or there are plastic wide mouth katsup or fruit jars that should work. The lightest stuff from my old company would hit the 3oz goal.
Oct 7, 2008 at 11:58 am #1453535Are you planning to eat out of this and then clean it out?

The lightest stuff from my old company would hit the 3oz goal.I could use them but where would I get data that they are safe for boiling water. May be caldera caddy would be a safe option? But they dont have standard 63mm opening so I will not be able to attach filter on to the mouth piece.

I am definitely planning on multiuse: peebottle, sports drink bottle, water bottle, filter bottle, ???,… :DOct 7, 2008 at 11:40 pm #1453652please don't pee in the same bottle you drink from.
Oct 8, 2008 at 12:38 am #1453659Sorry, I did not realize that you were looking for a specific opening that was 63 mm wide.
The Gaitoraide bottle won't work for you then.
Oct 8, 2008 at 6:33 am #1453671Huzefa,
I have drilled holes in Gatorade and PET softdrink bottles that is about the same size as my filter output hose. Insert the filter output hose and you have a hands free system to filter.
Oct 8, 2008 at 6:45 am #1453672Yea there is 63mm jars out there, just have to look around. I know, I've made them. And they fill them at 205deg sometimes so boiling water will be fine. They'll be soft at that temperature but once they cool down they reharden.

So drilling holes wont work.
Christopher, I will look into them.
