    They are very short, thus hard to cast long distances.

    They also have poor flex, the joints tend to jam, and the reel in my opinion is junk.

    If you don't think you are going to be fishing and want something to carry along just in case this is fine. But if fishing is definitely going to be part of the trip, there are many good spinning reels weighing in at 6 oz and the cabelas 6ft telescopic rod is 3 oz.

    So for 2 oz more you can get a setup with decent casting length, and a rod and reel that aren't likely to fall apart.
