I've experienced 2 types of chafing described above.
1) Chafing between the legs. I'm lean (5'11, 165) and this got better by going commando (reduction of sweat), but it doesn't totally solve the problem always. I did try the golite stride shorts, but this just generated too much sweat (SoCal, temps of 90's), undesireable for other reasons. If I still had a problem, I would apply vaseline or preferably neosporin while hiking and before bed.
2) chafing between the cheeks. This was solved by thoroughly cleaning after digging catholes. I used half of wet one as a final wipe and almost never chafed in this way anymore. Definitely pack out wet ones since they won't breakdown in most environments.
