From the wear I've seen so far, it's going to be awhile before they wear significantly. I use them on the ridges of the Long Trail and similar terrain…some significant rock, but not entirely. You might note that Andrew Skurka used them for his 400 mile Minnesota trek. Like I said, the you may prefer the steel version. Theres a recent gear review on the steel in BPL.
